Let’s be internet friends.

Hi! I’m Julie. I wrote a memoir about my experience growing up at the center of the debate between evangelicals and the LGBTQ community. It’s called Outlove and it’s about love and losses, political and religious power-plays, and the cost to those who sought to stay in faith communities that wouldn’t accept them. You can pre-order it now wherever you buy books!

I’ve written about faith and LGBTQ issues for outlets like The New York TimesThe Washington Post, and Time, and my story is featured in Pray Away, a documentary about conversion therapy in Christian communities.

I live with my wife Amanda, our best friend Sharon, and our four cats(!) in Washington, DC, and it is a DREAM. As an introvert, I never imagined living with four cats and three humans in a two-bedroom home, but love is expansive and I’m continually surprised by it.

I may not know the specific questions, longings, or curiosities that you bring to this space, but I’m glad you’re here. This is a place for us to think out loud together.

Why subscribe?

I am obsessed with online spaces that move us away from hot-takes and toward genuine connections with one another. This is a place for us to slow down, to re-examine old ideas, take in new ones, and begin to imagine fresh ways of sharing life together.

I will send out a newsletter intermittently, so subscribe to stay in the loop! Most of the action will be for paid subscribers. For $5/month or $50/year, you’ll receive:

  • A weekly newsletter from me that touches on topics related to faith, public life, and chosen family

  • Access to a Dear Sugar style Q&A, where I’ll reflect on your questions with you a couple times a month

  • Monthly video hangouts, where we can all meet face to face to form deeper friendships

  • Access to the comments section, where we can wrestle with questions, hear new perspectives, and grow alongside one another

If you want to subscribe but can’t afford it, email me at hi@julierodgers.com and I’ll give you a free subscription! Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox so you won’t miss a beat. I hope you’ll find a community here, and that the connections formed will expand beyond this space. I hope this will be a place where love can grow.
